Confidentiality and Privacy

The headlines:

All sessions with me are in the strictest confidence.  Notes are made by me to assist in prescribing and recall only.  I do not share your notes with anyone else unless it is for your own safety.  I do not sell data.  I only use your contact information to communicate offers or information about my practice.

Here’s the detail:

I process personal information to enable me to provide health services to my patients, to maintain my accounts and records, promote my services.

This information includes:

  • personal details
  • family details
  • lifestyle and social circumstances
  • financial details
  • employment and education details

I also hold sensitive classes of information that may include:

  • physical or mental health details
  • sexual life
  • racial or ethnic origin
  • religious or other beliefs of a similar nature
  • offences and alleged offences

And other sensitive information disclosed to me during our consultations.

I sometimes need to share the personal information I process with the individual themselves.  Rarely with other organisations and ONLY without permission as a safeguarding concern. Where this is necessary I am still required to comply with all aspects of the Data Protection Act (DPA).

Your written consultation notes are kept in a locked file.  Electronic communication and personal address details are kept securely and separately.  You are not identifiable by your written notes.  What follows is a description of the types of organisations I may need to share some of the personal information I process with for one or more reasons.

  • healthcare professionals (by permission only)
  • social and welfare organisations (by permission only)
  • suppliers and service providers; (electronic only)
  • Examining bodies (where you have consented to be an anonymous case study)

If you book in via my online form, your data and medical history are then separated to ensure you are not readily identifiable.  Contact details remain online.  Medical History is in hard copy form.

It is the recommendation of my professional bodies (ASK and ARH) that I keep your notes for seven years after your last appointment.  For Children, it is seven years after they turn 18 so I’m going to need a sturdy box for the babies!

I’ve got some cookies here as well somewhere.  I am not smart enough to know what to do with them so your data is safe as far as that’s concerned too.
